In a landmark tribute to Afrobeats icon Davido, the International University of East Africa in Uganda has inaugurated a new faculty dedicated to music and arts.

The unveiling ceremony, graced by the award-winning singer himself, was accompanied by a series of Instagram posts on Friday March 29th 2024, offering a glimpse into the momentous occasion. Thursday March 28th, 2024 marked the official christening of both the faculty and a hall named after Davido, underscoring his profound influence on the global music scene. He is currently in Uganda for a highly anticipated performance at the Kololo Independence Grounds.

Davido’s philanthropic endeavors in music education have left an indelible mark across Africa. Notably, in 2018, he generously donated $5,000 to a music school in Rwanda, showcasing his commitment to nurturing future talents. The launch comes amidst Davido’s soaring musical achievements, with his fourth album, “Timeless,” released on March 31, 2023, securing a notable position on the United States Billboard 200 chart. Surpassing one billion streams across major platforms by August 3, “Timeless” propelled Davido to his first-ever Grammy nomination in three categories, further solidifying his stature as a luminary in the African music landscape. Building upon his acclaimed discography, which includes hits like “Omo Baba Olowo” (2012), “A Good Time” (2019), and “A Better Time” (2020), Davido’s legacy continues to reverberate, cementing his status as a trailblazer in the industry.
